Memorial Taps

Bringing the “Memorial” Back to Memorial Day

On Memorial Day 2026, a new tradition begins on Cape Cod — one we hope will echo across America.

Memorial Taps is a community remembrance initiative held in conjunction with Taps Across America 2026, inviting musicians to visit local cemeteries and sound Taps in honor of the veterans buried there.

This year, we are working to place a musician at each of the 167 cemeteries across Cape Cod, creating a solemn wave of remembrance from town to town, graveyard to graveyard, and heart to heart.

At 3:00 PM local time, during the National Moment of Remembrance, musicians across the nation will pause and sound Taps — 24 notes that have carried our country’s gratitude for generations.

Here on Cape Cod, we are taking that remembrance one step further: bringing those notes directly to the resting places of the men and women who served.

Memorial Taps

How the Event Works

Memorial Taps is simple, meaningful, and open to musicians who want to honor our veterans.

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026:

* Choose a cemetery on Cape Cod [Cemetery Listing]
* Arrive respectfully with your instrument
* Sound Taps at 3:00 PM local time, if possible
* Pause, remember, and honor the veterans buried there
* Share the moment, helping others rediscover the meaning of Memorial Day – use the hashtag #MemorialTaps and #TapsAcrossAmerica

While 3:00 PM is preferred as part of the National Moment of Remembrance, we understand that some musicians may need to participate earlier or later in the day.

What matters most is that we show up.

Calling All Musicians

We are seeking buglers, trumpet players, cornet players, and other musicians willing to take part in this moving tribute.

You do not need to be a professional musician.
You do not need a uniform.
You simply need a willing heart, a respectful presence, and the desire to honor those who served.

Whether you are a student, veteran, music teacher, community band member, church musician, retired performer, or someone who plays Taps from the heart — there is a place for you in Memorial Taps.

This is a chance to stand in a quiet cemetery, lift your instrument, and give a gift that costs nothing but means everything.

Why Memorial Taps Matters

Memorial Day is not simply the beginning of summer.

It is not just a long weekend, a parade, or a flag placed in the ground.

It is a sacred day of remembrance — a day set aside to honor those who gave their lives in service to our nation, and to remember all veterans whose courage helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy.

Across Cape Cod, in historic churchyards, town cemeteries, family burial grounds, and quiet places tucked along back roads, generations of veterans rest beneath simple stones and waving flags.

Some served in distant wars.

Some returned home and built families, businesses, churches, and communities.

Some may never have received military honors at burial.
But every one of them deserves to be remembered.

Memorial Taps is our way of saying: they are not forgotten.

Memorial Taps

24 Notes. One Moment of Gratitude.

There is something powerful about the sound of Taps played live.

It stops conversation.
It stills the air.
It reminds us that freedom is not an idea floating somewhere in history — it was carried, defended, and protected by real people.

A live sounding of Taps is more than music. It is a promise.

A promise to remember.
A promise to honor.
A promise to teach the next generation that Memorial Day has meaning.

On Memorial Day 2026, as America approaches its 250th birthday, we pause to remember those who helped make that story possible.

250 Years. 24 Notes. One Nation.
